Privacy Policy
ParallelButler is built local-first. The substance of your work — which agents you run, their output, your code, and your windows — stays on your Mac and is never sent to us. This policy explains the little that does leave your device, and why.
01 What stays on your device
The app works by observing the local status of AI coding agents you run yourself. The following never leaves your Mac:
- The contents, prompts, or output of any AI agent.
- Your source code, files, repositories, or terminal contents.
- Window titles, project paths, and which specific agents you run.
- The local task state the app maintains is held in memory and is cleared when the app restarts.
The app receives status over a local HTTP listener bound only to 127.0.0.1, which is not reachable from the network.
02 Information that does leave your device
Install identifier
On first launch the app generates a random install ID (a UUID). It is not derived from your name, email, hardware, or any personal data. It is used to associate your license with this installation and to de-duplicate anonymous analytics.
License verification
To check your trial or paid entitlement, the app contacts our license endpoint with the install ID. The endpoint returns a signed license record. No personal information is required for this exchange.
Device records for licensed installs
A license covers up to three of your own Macs. Only after a license is present on a Mac, each license check also sends a device record so we can count how many Macs use the license and, in the future, let you remove a specific Mac from it. The record contains:
- a device identifier: a one-way SHA-256 hash of your Mac’s hardware UUID combined with a ParallelButler-specific prefix. The hardware UUID itself and the serial number are never sent;
- the model identifier (for example
Mac14,6), the macOS version, and the app version; - your Mac’s computer name as set in System Settings (for example “Alex’s MacBook Pro”). It may contain your name; it is used only so you can recognize your own Macs;
- the license ID and install ID, plus the time we first and most recently saw this Mac.
Trial installs without a license send no device record.
Anonymous usage analytics
We collect minimal, aggregate product analytics (for example: app launches, feature usage, and crash signals) through PostHog, keyed only to the random install ID. These events contain no code, no agent content, and no personal identifiers. They help us understand whether the app is working and which features matter. You can disable analytics in the app’s Privacy settings.
02b Payments
Purchases are processed by Paddle, the Merchant of Record. When you buy a plan, Paddle collects and processes the payment information and billing details necessary to complete the transaction and calculate tax. We do not receive or store your full payment details. Paddle’s handling of that data is governed by Paddle’s Privacy Notice. We receive a confirmation that an install ID is entitled to a plan, plus the limited transaction references needed to honor and support your purchase.
03 Service providers
We share data only with the processors needed to run the app, and only to the extent described above:
- Paddle — payments, billing, tax, and receipts.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics.
- Vercel & Upstash — hosting for the license endpoint and storage of the entitlement record keyed to your install ID, and of the device records described above.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
04 Retention
Entitlement records associated with your install ID, and the device records attached to your license, are kept for as long as needed to provide and support your license. Anonymous analytics are retained in aggregate. You can clear local app data at any time by uninstalling the app.
05 Your choices
- Disable anonymous analytics in the app’s Privacy settings.
- Uninstall the app to stop all data collection from your device.
- Contact us to ask about, or delete, the limited data associated with your install ID, purchase, or device records.
06 Children
The app is intended for developers and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect data from children.
